They were sitting on the balcony, chatting, when her younger brother touched her and said, "Aunty Olamide, is it today you're going back to school?" He asked, frowning.

"Honestly, Aunty, when are you going back?" Her younger sister asked, raising her eyebrows.

"We're tired of your nagging, right, Farida?" Her brother, AbdulHakeem, asked Farida.

"Oh, okay, so you're both tired of me? I’ll leave the house for you next week. But before I go, I'll make sure to deal with you!"

"You won’t dare!" Their mother said.

"Just stop disturbing my elder brother. Let next week come quickly so you can leave, at least my kids will have some peace."

"Wow, Mummy, even you are tired of me?" She asked, pretending to be about to cry.

"Very much so. My prayer now is for God to send you a husband so you can get married. That way, we'll have peace—no more nagging. You can go and do that with your husband instead."

"Mummy, you don’t love me anymore?"

"Of course, I love you, but your trouble is just too much."

"Alright then. Since my trouble is too much, I’ll stay away from you all. I’ll only greet you and discuss major things with you until I return to school."

"We would love that, right, Boder (elder brother)?"

"Absolutely," AbdulHakeem replied.

Angrily, she left the place and went into her room, fuming.

WHO IS OLAMIDE?

As you all know, "Olamide" is a Yoruba name. Though her real name is Faiza, Yoruba people love using names from their language. She is twenty years old and a third-year student at Bayero University, Kano (B.U.K).

She is a sensible girl, friendly, respectful, and polite. She treats everyone with respect—young or old. She is cheerful, playful, and has many good qualities. However, Olamide is also quite dramatic and a serious nagger.

Her father passed away when she was in primary school, at the age of six. Since then, their mother has been the sole provider for her and her younger siblings.

Her father’s name was Alhaji Abdullahi, while her mother’s name is Alhaja (Hajiya) Fausat. She has two younger siblings: AbdulHakeem and Farida.

Hakeem, as they call him, is eighteen years old and a first-year student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi. Farida is sixteen and in secondary school, in SS2.

Even though they are Yoruba, they live in the North. In fact, their parents were born there, as were they. Their entire family is based there, though they are Yoruba by tribe. They don’t even know the way to their ancestral home, but they can speak Yoruba a little. They live in Niger State, in the town of Suleja, and are well-integrated into the community. But as you know, a Yoruba parent always loves their children fiercely.

That’s that.

When she entered the room, they all burst into laughter.

"If Mide says she’s done talking to us, she’ll still come back and start the conversation herself," Mummy said.

"Don't worry, Mummy, we’re used to it," Hakeem replied, laughing.

Farida, however, remained silent as if she wasn’t there.

"Ah ah, Goggo Farida, what’s wrong? We were just laughing together, and now you’ve gone quiet, like I reminded you of something unpleasant," Hakeem asked.

"Hmmm, Boder, you won’t understand. You’re not the one who has to sleep in the same room as Aunty Faiza. I’m just thinking of the trouble I’ll face tonight," she said, almost crying.

As she spoke, Mummy and Hakeem burst into laughter. Hakeem laughed so hard he fell off his chair.

Annoyed, she said, "Honestly, Boder, my problem with you is that you always start trouble, but I’m the one who gets into trouble for it."

"Did I ask you to say anything? When I was talking, did you hear me say, 'Farida, add something'?"

"But you know I can’t keep quiet," she said, wiping away fake tears.

Mummy just watched them in amusement.

"Yes, you talk too much. You see, I’m not the one making you suffer. And if it’s trouble you’re afraid of, tonight, you will experience it in full. Unless you want to avoid it, go and sleep in Mummy’s room." Hakeem said.

"You don’t understand, Boder Hakeem. My nightwear is in the room." She spoke as if she was really about to cry.

Hakeem laughed even harder.

"So, Aunty Mide has turned into the terror of the house?"

"If there’s anything worse than that, she has become it. I honestly pity whoever will marry her," Farida added.

"Not just her husband, but her children too. Her children are in trouble," Mummy said this time.

"Exactly, Mummy!"

They continued chatting and laughing.

Meanwhile, in her room, Faiza (Olamide) sat on her bed, as she and Farida had separate beds. She sat, fuming.

So, they were calling her a nag and a troublemaker? Well, they would soon see what nagging and trouble really meant. Today, she would make Farida cry. As for Hakeem, his eyes would pop out of his head with frustration. She would make sure to deal with them properly before she left.

As she was lost in thought, the call to Maghrib prayer was made. She stood up, went to the en-suite bathroom, performed ablution, and came back to pray.

Outside, the others also heard the call to prayer. Each of them got up to prepare. Mummy went to her room, while Hakeem performed ablution and left for the mosque.

Farida, however, stood by the door, afraid to enter the room. She knew that if she went in now, she was in trouble. Her only savior would be Mummy if she decided to intervene.

She waited until she saw Olamide start her prayer before sneaking in, grabbing her hijab, and running out quickly to Mummy’s room. Fortunately, Mummy had also started praying, so she quietly entered her bathroom, performed ablution, and then joined in prayer.

After finishing her prayer, Olamide made supplications, neatly folded her hijab and prayer mat, and put them in their places. When she was done, she sat on the bed and gave a mischievous laugh.

"You’ll understand, little girl. It’s me you’re dealing with, right?"
